No matter how long you’ve been living in West Village, Dallas, there might come a time when you decide that you want to give back to your community or help those who are in need. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities in the area, from helping out at a local hospital, to providing meals to the hungry. You can also get involved in working to improve the district and area around it for all residents by working with the organization that manages the district.

Scottish Rite Hospital for Children

If you’re interested in healthcare and want to volunteer in West Village at a hospital, consider signing up for the volunteer program at the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Adult volunteers can work either daytime or evening shifts and can serve in a variety of areas  throughout the hospital, based on their particular interests or skills. If you volunteer for the evening shift, usually between 6 and 8:30pm, you might be responsible for overseeing activities with the patients or for spending time with one specific patient and his or her family.

The hospital also has a volunteer program for teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17. The Junior Volunteer program takes place over the course of the summer, during two 5-week sessions. Spaces in the summer program fill up quickly.

The Stewpot

The Stewpot began serving food to the hungry and homeless in Dallas in 1975. Today, it provides the resources people need to survive and to start a new life for themselves after living on the streets. The organization has a number of volunteer opportunities and works with individuals as well as groups of up to 20 participants. Volunteers with the Stewpot can help out with its meal serving program, either by helping to prepare the meals or by serving meals to guests. There’s also the option to help out with the organization’s youth programs, either by assisting with ESL classes, helping out at the summer camp, or being a teaching assistant during Saturday School.

Uptown Dallas, Inc.
